IMPACT OF PERFORMING ARTS MAKES TO SKILL DEVELOPMENT
“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” ~ Albert Einstein
A child’s brain is always developing and this growth can be enhanced when the child is curious and imaginative. The Academy for Creative Expression, ACE incorporates performing arts in their workshops which are one of the best avenues for kids to learn and it has many advantages including benefits to skill development such as:
- Creative Self-Expression
The quest of any art form is to help a child express their creativity and individualism and this helps them express themselves openly. Self-expression, which is an important part of performing arts, helps maintain relationships of all kinds. ACE which stands for Academy for Creative expression helps children develop their creative self-expression through mime. During the classes, the kids love to showcase their stories with the help of puppet theatres and playlets.
- Confidence
Confidence is key to success and a child’s confidence can be increased by the help of performing arts. While trying to build up confidence it is really important that the child let’s go of all the expectations and uses their own imagination and inner creativity. At ACE we believe that confidence is built through engaging in myriad activities such as monologues and ACE’s very own JAM i.e. Just a minute where the kids express themselves with the help of speech and body language.
- Collaboration
Performing arts can help children to be collaborative in their behavior. Children can use this to build connections with others that share common goals and interests. Performing arts can also help children build trust with others while also helping them encounter conflicts and using it in a beneficial manner. ACE teaches kids to engage and collaborate with others while preparing for their performance day as they prepare their props and costumes. They also learn the value of collaboration while executing the plays.
- Focus
Determination and willpower is often required when a child undertakes creative ventures. Focus is a critical aspect to accomplish an objective and children should be acquainted with this from a young age. ACE inculcates the aspect of focus in kids with the help of fun activities such as theatre games. The games help children increase their memorizing capacity, creativity, focus and ability to think out of the box.
- Problem-solving
Creativity building workshops can help children to increase their understanding of the problem solving process. Individuals in each group often have something to contribute during discussions. Hence the group activities conducted at ACE focus on a child’s strengths and help them in their weaknesses. We believe that kids can learn to solve problems through several activities such as improvisations. Improvisation also helps to increase a child’s critical thinking.
- Leveraging Feedback
In school, assessment helps students in a constructive way to help them prosper. Through the medium of performing arts children can learn the importance of what feedback can play in their lives if it’s taken in a positive manner. Children should try and use any favorable or unfavorable feedback to their advantage. At ACE during every course the child is assessed to identify how they’ve grown from the first session to the last. Feedback from the parents, is also constructively taken into consideration by the academy so that the courses can be improved to ensure that the child gains maximum benefit
- Accountability
Pursuing a goal collaboratively can help children realize that their actions and timeliness affect other people in the group. Performing Arts helps children understand that mistakes happen occasionally and it’s important to take responsibility for one’s mistake. At ACE we believe that mistakes should be acknowledged, the kids should learn from them and move on.
- Dedication
Dedication is very important for a child to fulfill his/her goals. Every goal can be achieved if one has a dedicated outlook. The instructors at ACE, inculcate the belief of dedication in each child, by encouraging them to dedicate themselves to the course and gain the many benefits it has to offer.
- Non-Verbal Communication
Performing arts helps children understand how their body language plays a role while communicating with others. People often are unconscious about how their gestures and postures influence the way they communicate. Through experiences at ACE’s speech and drama workshop, children learn the value of body language. The kids appreciate the importance of proper body language through the help of various activities such as mime, interpret the music and art. They are coached in a way that helps them portray their character effectively to any audience.
